"Windows could not start" Error Message by jonny

When you try to start a Windows XP computer system, you may receive an error message related to BIOS settings, computer system files, operating system files, drivers and applications. Such error messages halt the booting process and make the data saved in the hard disk inaccessible. If there is no recent data backup, to access the files saved in the system a user needs to use a third party application known as Data Recovery Software.

As a practical instance, when a user attempts to start a Windows XP computer, he encounters one of the below error messages:

"Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.

Could not read from the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware.

Please check the Windows documentation about hardware disk configuration and your hardware reference manuals for additional information."

Or

"Winnt_root\System32\Hal.dll missing or corrupt:

Please re-install a copy of the above file."

After any of the above error messages appear, the data stored in the hard drive becomes inaccessible. These can be the reasons for occurrence for any of the above error messages:

• The Ntoskrnl.exe file is missing or damaged.

• The Default value in the [Boot Loader] section of the Boot.ini file is missing or invalid.

• The partition path in the Boot.ini file is not set correctly.

• Windows XP is not installed in the location specified in the Boot.ini file.

To resolve the above error message and access the data, the user needs to start the computer system by using the Recovery Console and then run the chkdsk /r command. If the Recovery Console is not already installed on the system, the user should boot from the Windows XP CD and press 'R' at the first screen. But, if the user receives the same error message even after performing the above step, then he needs to reinstall the operating system. When a user chooses the option of a clean operating system reinstall, all the fils saved in that partition get erased. To access the data from the formatted hard drive partition, the user needs an advanced Data Recovery Software with a rich feature set.
